Experimental investigation of light-matter interaction when transitioning from cavity QED to waveguide QED

چکیده
Cavity quantum electrodynamics (cavity QED) is conventionally described by the Jaynes- or Tavis-Cummings model, where emitters couple to a single-mode cavity. The opposite scenario, in which an ensemble of couples single spatial mode propagating light field, waveguide QED, interact with continuum frequency modes. Here we present experiment cold atoms strongly fiber-ring resonator variable length containing optical nanofiber. By changing can tailor density modes and thus explore transition from cavity QED QED. We analyse response ensemble–cavity system after sudden switch-on resonant laser find that for progressively longer resonators, Rabi oscillations typical disappear single-pass dynamics appear. Our measurements shed on interplay between collective field dynamics.

Trapped atoms in cavity QED: coupling quantized light and matter
On the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of Albert Einstein’s annus mirabilis, we reflect on the development and current state of research in cavity quantum electrodynamics in the optical domain. Cavity QED is a field which undeniably traces its origins to Einstein’s seminal work on the statistical theory of light and the nature of its quantized interaction with matter. In this paper, we em...
متن کاملIntroduction to Cavity QED
This text arose in the course of the “Hauptseminar Experimentelle Quantenoptik” in WS 2010 at the TU Kaiserslautern, organized by Prof. Ott and Prof. Widera. I want to give a short introduction also from the theoretical point of view to the fascinating field of cavity quantum electrodynamics (CQED). Modern experiments (QND measurements on photons and photon blockade) are discussed and basic res...
متن کاملSingle-photon all-optical switching using waveguide-cavity QED
This manuscript demonstrates switching of a single signal photon by a single gating photon of a different frequency, via a cross-phase modulation. This effect is mediated by materials exhibiting electromagnetically-induced transparency (EIT), which are embedded in photonic crystals (PhC’s). An analytical model based on waveguide-cavity QED is constructed for our system, which consists of a PhC ...
متن کاملPhase transition of light in cavity QED lattices.
Systems of strongly interacting atoms and photons, which can be realized wiring up individual cavity QED systems into lattices, are perceived as a new platform for quantum simulation. While sharing important properties with other systems of interacting quantum particles, here we argue that the nature of light-matter interaction gives rise to unique features with no analogs in condensed matter o...
متن کاملSingle-mode Cavity-qed of a Raman Interaction
We consider a single Rydberg atom having two degenerate levels interacting with the radiation field in a single-mode ideal cavity. The transition between the levels is carried out by a Λ-type degenerate two-photon process via a third level far away from single-photon resonance. At the start of interaction, the atom is considered to be in a coherent superposition of its two levels and the field ...
